You know what this picture is? (Unless its a blasted internet hoax) It is a picture of two men stealing a kiss in a photo booth, most likely sometime in the 1950s or early 1960s. In most parts of the world, this was probably a daring display of affection between two men for this time. Note, one has his eyes open in the picture where they kiss. Today is Thanksgiving. I'm not much of a holiday person really... I honestly prefer to spend them alone, spending some quiet moments with myself and relaxing (or, today, doing homework). I generally always work on holidays, much to my co-workers pleasure. It isn't that I don't enjoy my family or friends, quite the opposite in fact, its just that I spend lots of time with them normally. Plus, I don't really do that part of Thanksgiving where I stuff myself silly and hate how fat I feel for the rest of the day. My Thanksgiving meal consisted of couscous with spinach and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Mmmmmmm. But the one good thing about Thanksgiving is reflecting on what makes my life awesome, and avoiding the negative thoughts that seem to plague everyone now and then. In light of the recent "Kill the Gays" bill in Uganda, I'm thankful to live in a country where I can live with my boyfriend openly and love who I want. Yes, there is a long way to go for gay equality in the United States, but I'm focusing on what is positive about the situation. I'm Thankful that I can love Albert, I'm thankful that my parents and entire family love me unconditionally, that me being gay wasn't given a second thought. I'm thankful that, like the two men above, I don't have to hide my love in a photo-booth or seedy motel. Most of all, I'm thankful to have found Albert. More appropriately, I'm thankful that we've found each other. While I have plenty in my life that I wish improvement on, I'm focusing on what makes my life amazing. To all my American friends, Happy Thanksgiving. To all my friends around the world, Happy Thursday. What are you thankful for? Let me know below.
